Young Living Essential Oils and Products

Young Living was founded on a commitment to only offer essential oils as pure as when nature created them. This is an idea that began 24 years ago. Since then Young Living has attracted houndreds of thousands of loyal products enthusiasts, elevated interest in essential oils worldwide, and blessed countless lives.

Below are a few questions that are improtant for people who choose Young Living essential oils:

1. What does the company do to personally verify source, authenticity, and proper perparation?
2. Which personnel with what expertise are responsible for overseeing these processes?
3. Does the company have intimate firsthand knowledge of each critical part of the supply chain?
4. How long has this company been in business?
5. Has the company invested in its own facilities, farms, distillation, manufacturing, laboratories, etc? How does the company leverage those investments with world-class partners and expertise?

Young Living can authoritatively address each of these critical areas and many others. We personally invite you to experience the power, purpose, and abundance in Young Living essential oils and products.

What are essential oils?

Young Living essential oils contain virtually all of the plants healing nutrients, oxygenating molecules, amino acid precursors, coenzyme A factors, trace minerals, enzymes, vitamins, hormones and more. Because they are concentrated, essential oils are 50-70 times more therapeutically potent than the herbs or plants from which they are derived.

Unlike dried herbs, which lose up to 90% of their healing nutrients and oxygen molecules essential oils do not. That also explains why it takes so long for a “herbal” remedy to work. In many cases a therapeutic grade essential oil remedy works MUCH faster.

Young Living Ensures Essential Oil Purity

1. Young Living plants, harvests and distills on our own farms. The best defense against adulteration is to completely control herb cultivation and distillation. This is why Young Living grows over 15 different herbs, including lavender, clary sage, melissa, thyme, sage, peppermint, spearmint, German chamomile, Roman chamomile and Idaho tansy.

2. Young Living visits and inspects the farms and distillation facilities of our essential oil suppliers. By personally inspecting the facilities of outside oil producers, Young Living ensures that herbs meet stringent quality specifications.

3. Young Living uses state-of-the-art chemical analysis to check every batch of essential oils. Young Living quarantines, inspects, and tests each lot of essential oils for purity and quality. Oils can go through as many as five separate levels of analysis before they are released.

4. European AFNOR* or ISO Standards for Essential Oils – One of the most reliable indicators of essential oil quality is whether the oil is AFNOR or ISO certified. This standard differentiates true therapeutic grade oils from inferior oils.

*The AFNOR standard (Association French Normalization Organization Regulation) was written by a botanical chemist, Hervi Casabianca, Ph. D., while working with different analytical laboratories throughout France. He recognized that the constituents within an essential oil had to occur in certain percentages in order for the oil to be considered therapeutic.

…that “Seed to Seal” is Young Living’s way of authenicating our their essential oils and protecting nature’s living energy in every bottle? The first step of this process – Seed – means we reasearch plant species that offer the optimal therapeutic benefits, identify species with experts and document their source, and monitor the ongoing cultivation process to ensure the chosen plant species is used.
Lavender is an excellent example of Seed authentification. YL has identified more than 35 different varieties of lavender, and so far, only one Lavendula angustifolia, as shown the best therapeutic outcomes. Lavendula angustifolia is grown on YL farms in Utah, Idaho, and France.

After the harvest on each farm, the lavender seed stock is collected and stored until the following year. YL always used the seed stock from the previous harvest instead of cloned or hybrid seed. Cloned and hybrid seeding techniques are used by lavender growers who are not focused on therapeutic outcomes. Although these other seeding techniques may grow taller, faster plants and produce larger yields, but YL industry-leading experience and research has shown that only a balanced seed stock can deliver the expected therapeutic results.

Lavender is only one example of YL experience in seed authentification. Think about the dozens of YL essential oils, the variety of species, and all the places around the world where these species are grown – copaiba in the Amazon rainforest, helichrysum in the Mediterranean, vetiver in Madagascar. There are more than 70 single oil species YL offers as products! YL experts have visited each partner grower to verify in person the species being used. Even after our experts leave a partner grower, incoming batches are tested to validate the chosen species.

When Young Living researchers discover a largely unknown plant species, they look to the knowledge and expertise of botony experts. YL collaborated with academic and professional botanists around the globe to document the species at the plant source. Recently, Gary Young teamed with professionals in the Middle East to document the orgin and benefits of multiple frankincense species. Only by going to the source can YL confidently share the therapeutic benefits of the plant compounds with all its members.

…that through expert cultivation on farms around the world, Young Living has mastered growing high-quality aromatic plants? Cultivation includes planting, growing, and harvesting the delicate herbs in preparation for distillation. YL currently operated four farms, each dedicated to the cultivation of the world’s most potent and pure plant sources. These farms, and their years of experience perfecting the cultivation process help ensure member get the results they expect from every bottle of essential oil.

St. Maries, Idaho In 1992, 160 acres of pristine farmland near the small logging town of St. Maries was purchased. This poperty has never before been plowed or subjected to harsh chemicals, pesticides, or fertilizers – making it an ideal location to begin producing therapeutic grade essential oils.

Mona, Utah in 1995, 138 acres of farmland were purchased. Today, this farm boasts approximately 1,600 acres and showcases vibrant lavender fields during June and July. German chamomile, hyssop, goldenrod, and clary sage are also distilled on the farm, which houses the largest essential oil distillery in North America.

Simiane-la-Rotonde, France Well-known for its rolling hills, fresh-grown crops, and fragrant fields of lavender, the Provence area of France is home to YLs third farm, the only American-owned lavender farm in the counrty. The scent of lavender yields calming, uplifing effects on the village and its people.

Guayaquil, Ecuador Since 2005, Gary and his family have lived in Ecuador. Here he overseas the cultivation of rare oils at YLs newest farm, Finca Botanica Aromatica. Gary spends much of his time searching for new natural plant remedies, partnering with indigenous tribes and local governments to foster a global community of healing and discovery and birng new essential oils to the world.

YL applies what it learns through clutivating plants on its own farms with its network of worldwide growing partners. Every farm that supplies YL with herbs ready for distilling must be visited and certified by a YL sourcing expert. These sourcing experts continually travel the globe to ensure that only the finest exxential oils bear the Young Living name.

…that after the correct species of plant has been properly identified (seed) and expertly sown, grown, and harvested (cultivate), if it is not correctly distilled, the resulting essential oils will not produce the desired theraoeutic results. This makes distillation – the thrid phase in Young Living’s Seed to Seal process – one of the most important in ensuring oil quality.

Essential oils can be distilled in a variety of ways, but the most commen method is steam distillation, a process that has been used for thousands of years. Following this proven technique, Young Living utilizes vaporized water that travels through the plant material to gently extract the natural oil. Once the steam passes through a series of tainless-steel pipes where it condenses and seperates from the water. The water is then drained off and the remaining essential oil is taken to the Young Living labs for quality testing. With each batch of essential oil, Young Living takes into consideration the part of the plant used, when the plant was havested, and the temperature at the time of distillation. Even minor deviations in distilling the plant material can cause an imbalance in the optimal natural constituents.

When he distills, Gary Yound treats each aromatic plant differently. Young Living also uses its distillation expertise to certify partner distillers around the world. Gary Young and other sourcing specialist personally visit these global partners to certify their machinery and distilling methods. Whether expertly distilling essential oils or certifying partner distilleries, the distillation portion of the Seed to Seal process is further evidence of the lengths Young Living goes to produce the highest quality essential oils available on the market. This means you can trust Young living to produce quality therapeutic products that work!
